North Kitsap High and YMTA form partnership

November 5, 2002

Norm Manly
President, YMTA

Seattle, WA 98127

Dear Norm,

On behalf of the North Kitsap School District Career and Technical Education, and our current Marine Technology program, I’d like to shake hands with you and the YMTA. As new partners, we both have the same interests in mind – quality education and training opportunities for students to grow and succeed in the maritime industry.

Headquartered in the Poulsbo Marine Science Center on the shores of Liberty Bay, our emerging program has strong, generational support from a community with traditional ties to the sea. In addition to our Scandinavian heritage and Native American tribal communities, "new" residents of our area come to appreciate the recreational aspects of being on the water. The focus of our Marine Technology program is twofold:

  • to make students aware of the career opportunities in the maritime industry,

  • to develop knowledge of, and experience with, some basic skills and concepts inherent to any marine or marine related career

We are eager to generate through our partnering, more enhanced training and education for our students who dream of making a career in the maritime industry.

Sincerely,

Jim Noeldner,
Director of Career and Technical Education
North Kitsap Schools
